Kim Longinotto

Kim Longinotto has proved herself as an impassioned filmmaker through her groundbreaking documentaries which have tackled many controversial aspects of human rights. Longinotto's commitment portraying the women in documentary style has been recognized in the guise of the prestigious Amnesty International DOEN Award at IDFA and is mirrored in her choice of an all-female crew. Longinotto has compared her directorial method to that of an anthropologist emphasizing her consistent interest in a humanist subject matter. Longinotto studied camera and directing at the National Film School where she completed her first documentary, Pride of Place, about her former boarding school. Her more recent work has been based primarily in Japan, Iran and Africa and deals with female suppression and gender issues.
